Infidelity and Affairs within relationships and pathways to regaining trust

How do we start to explore infidelity within counselling sessions?

Allow the betrayed partner space to express anger, grief, confusion or numbness.

The unfaithful partner must be prepared to listen without being defensive or minimising their partner's upset or the extent of the effects of the infidelity.

It is perfectly normal for trust  to feel shattered at first and healing can often take months or years.

Trust returns in layers, initially around small day to day matters and then gradually around larger issues

Rituals of connection such as daily check ins, rebuilding intimacy and spending quality time together can help a couple reset and move forward creating new positive memories.
