Key Principles of one at a time therapy ( OAAT )
- Every session matters: Each appointment is approached as a complete therapeutic experience, with a clear beginning, middle, and end.
- Immediate focus: Attention is given to what feels most important or urgent for the client right now.
- Client-led pace: Clients decide if and when they return, reducing pressure and increasing autonomy.
- Practical outcomes: Sessions aim to offer insight, coping strategies, or a shift in perspective that clients can use straight away.
In an OAAT session, we will:
- Clarify what you would most like help with today
- Explore your situation collaboratively and respectfully
- Identify strengths, resources, and possible next steps
- Work toward something useful you can take away from the session
Who is OAAT for?
OAAT can be helpful if you:
- Want support with a specific issue or decision
- Prefer flexibility rather than regular appointments
- Are unsure about committing to long-term therapy
- Need timely support during a challenging moment
- Can be used alongside other forms of therapy if desired
